RAHIM: A Landmark Gathering Where Faith and Fetal Medicine Converged

On February 14th, 2026, the RAHIM Seminar, themed “Tempat Iman dan Ilmu Bertemu” (Where Faith and Knowledge Meet) marked a significant milestone in Indonesia’s medical landscape.

With more than 400 registered participants from across Indonesia, RAHIM became one of the largest hybrid discussions bridging maternal-fetal medicine and Islamic scholarship. Participants joined both onsite at the GE Healthcare Innovation and Learning Hub, South Quarter Tower B, Jakarta, and online from various provinces, reflecting nationwide enthusiasm for deeper, values-based medical discourse.

More importantly, RAHIM stands as one of the first forums in Indonesia dedicated specifically to integrating fetal medicine with Islamic ethical and jurisprudential perspectives, an initiative rarely explored in a structured academic format.

Integrating Faith, Ethics, and Clinical Practice

RAHIM was designed not merely as a seminar, but as a pioneering platform where maternal-fetal medicine, Islamic scholarship, and ethical reflection intersected in serious academic dialogue.

Assoc. Prof. Saiful Bahri (Al-Azhar University) delivered a session on Pregnancy from the Perspective of Islam and Medicine. He emphasized that pregnancy is not solely a biological process, but an amanah, a sacred trust. His lecture explored the alignment between contemporary medical science and Islamic teachings in safeguarding maternal and fetal wellbeing, highlighting responsibility, compassion, and informed decision-making grounded in both evidence and faith.

Assoc. Prof. Zainal Arifin (Malaya University) presented on Fiqh of Pregnancy and Medical Ethics. He addressed complex ethical dilemmas in prenatal care, including prenatal diagnosis, intervention decisions, and evolving clinical scenarios, through structured Islamic jurisprudential frameworks. His session provided clarity on how clinicians and families can navigate difficult decisions responsibly and ethically.

Complementing these discussions, several doctors from Fetal Academy contributed clinical sessions featuring case-based discussions and updates in fetal medicine practice. Their presence bridged theological discourse with real-world medical application, ensuring that the dialogue remained both principled and practical.

A National Academic Momentum

The strong participation, spanning general practitioners, obstetricians, maternal-fetal medicine practitioners, and scholars, demonstrated a growing recognition that technical excellence alone is not sufficient. In high-stakes prenatal care, ethical grounding and spiritual awareness are equally essential.

The hybrid format allowed participants from multiple regions to engage actively, creating a collaborative and intellectually vibrant atmosphere.

More Than a Seminar, A Movement

RAHIM was not simply an academic event. It marked a strategic step toward cultivating healthcare professionals who are clinically competent, ethically conscious, and spiritually grounded.

By bringing together expertise, scholarship, and shared responsibility, RAHIM signaled a new direction in fetal medicine education in Indonesia — one that recognizes that progress in medicine is most meaningful when guided by both knowledge and conscience.

Because in pregnancy care, preparation is responsibility.
And responsibility begins long before birth.
